Part of the fun of doing this picture was pasting cut-out pieces of paper on the panel, and painting them to look like collaged scans, so that it is difficult at first to tell which parts are actual scans, and which are all painting. All my favourite objects are here, my antique china, hanging lamp and Poe, my stuffed raven. I must be thinking of painting something, by the look on my face.

After instructing at the Cobalt Artists Colony, I came home with sketches I had done of various artists at work. What struck me was all the umbrellas dotting the (very hot) landscape. They were colourful and made the artists easy to find when we were on location, but they also presented many problems, as the slightest breeze would send them sailing away. Artists chasing umbrellas became a common sight, as we wandered the abandoned mining sites of Cobalt.
